The immune system is made up of cells, tissues and organs that act in the organism’s defense against the harmful effects of external microorganisms. The supplements indicated for immunity act as strengthening agents of this system, increasing the antibodies production and, consequently, its defense activity.
Spirulina is tought to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth that has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The vitamin content of Spirulina is made up by mostly beta carotene (80%). This carotenoid is a natural antioxidant, pro vitamin A, and is used to treat degenerative diseases and seems to be a very powerful at ainding colds and allergies recoveries.
The liver is responsible for many physiological processes, such as nutrient metabolism, filtration of toxins, lipid profile regulation, etc. It is an extremely important organ for the organism, since it acts in general body homeostasis. The substances that help in liver functioning aids the detoxification pathways, preventing the liver from overloading itself.
Oxidative damage can harm all the cells, but mainly liver cells. This damage can drive chronic inflammation, which contributes to cancer and other inflammatory diseases. Spirulina is a source of antioxidants, which protect against this type oxidative damage. Its main active component is called phycocyanin, which can fight free radicals and inhibit production of inflammatory signaling molecules, providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in liver cells.
Spirulina has liver protective characteristics associated with the algae’s antioxidant capabilities. Spirulina may also prevent the increase in liver fat in response to a high fat, cholesterol, and alcohol diet.
Spirulina consumption can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea in case of allergic reactions. People suffering from hyperthyroidism should also not take it, as the iodine in Spirulina can affect the effectiveness of the medication for treatment and compromise the functioning of the thyroid.
The combination of Spirulina and Whey Protein is complementary, as Spirulina is low in Cysteine (an conditionally Essential Amino acid) and most of Whey Proteins are a good source of it. Both of them are complete Protein sources but they can be synergistic. Spirulina is effective in reducing oxidation in the liver due to high protein intake and both of them are powerful “antibiotics” against aflatoxin (toxic substance found in some fungus and agricultural products)
NT-020 is a combination of polyphenols from blueberry, green tea, carnosine and Vitamin D. It seems to work with Spirulina to enhance stem cell proliferation. The mechanism is not yet known, but it appears to be via Spirulina suppressing the actions of negative regulators of stem cell, which allows NT-020 take its place on properly regulate proliferation. Besides that, Spirulina seems to work synergically with each component of NT-020 in reducing oxidative stress throughout the organism.
